La Storia

La Scarpetta is a traditional Italian restaurant situated in the
small town of Balloch on the banks of Loch Lomond.La Scarpetta, or La Barchetta, as it is known in some parts of Italy, is the bread used to clean your plate, showing how much you enjoyed your meal. In Italy a meal is there to be savoured without too much ceremony. As the poet Lello Lupoli put it:

"nun saccio lassa''o zuco dint''o piatto.... c''o ppoco 'e pane io m'haggi' 'a fa 'a scarpetta!"

which roughly translated means "don't leave sauce on your plate, mop it up with a slice of bread"

Since its inception in 1992 La Scarpetta has steadily grown in stature. The quality of our food is measured by the number of regular customers and tourists who come back year after year. Our hospitality and service are exceptional. We strive to make your meal as enjoyable as possible. The extensive menu caters for all tastes. We have a range of vegetarian dishes, pastas, pizzas and fresh fish. For something that little bit different our speciality Italian dishes can vary from simple country dishes to the more unusual, we have been known to serve Crocodile, Ostrich, and Kangaroo, always all`Italiana

Our food - the food of the people - simple, colourful, and cheerful reflects, in the main, the food culture of the area South of Rome and, where appropriate; embodies the result of that wonderful marriage between tomato and basil.
Against the flow to fast food we are proud to subscribe to the slow food cult, using only the freshest ingredients. Food, in our opinion, is not just a matter of sustenance, it is part of the art of living - there should always be a sense of joy when you sit down to a meal. Consequently, some of our dishes take time to prepare; we hope you take time to enjoy them - you will not be disappointed.
